I did try to use it "momentarily" when OpenOffice wouldn't work, and it didn't work either so I removed it. Are they actually the same, or run on the same soffice.bin? In any case, from there I could deactivate that, since I don't have LibreOffice on this computer and thought maybe that was the hang-up.

There isn't as much user control as with the full Malwarebytes program, but when I looked at the "shielded" programs, it listed LibreOffice with soffice.bin as a shielded program. I run the free beta version of Malwarebytes Anti Exploit and it appears that may be the culprit. I disabled 0Patch - no difference, but I did email them to see if there was some conflict they knew about. There was something in the printer queue - but I don't think it was an OO document. Thanks to you both for all of the ideas and suggestions! I have tried a few things and here are the results: By the way, tell MalwareBytes not to touch open OpenOffice files - that might be causing the problem. If disabling one/other or both of these doesn't help, then one has to start going through programs that run in Windows normal mode and disabling these in turn. Start by disconnecting from internet (for safety) and disabling MalwareBytes and OPatch (one at a time). One has to do some detective work to isolate the culprit. Un/re-installing OpenOffice won't fix such a problem. Is there a way I can add Open Office to the exclusions for scanning for those programs maybe? I also run Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit - the free version, and 0Patch, along with Norton - but I think it worked with all of these previously. I did try installing LibreOffice - that seemed to behave the same way, if that helps in figuring things out. Is there a way to find out what is causing the issue if it is only in normal mode?
